How to Increase the RAM on a PC

       How to Increase the RAM on a PC

1.    Need to give your computer a boost? Upgrading your RAM is one of the cheapest ways to increase performance on your computer, though it's not cure for every slow computer's problems. If you want to install new RAM, you'll need to know what kinds your computer supports. Once it comes time to install, you can have the whole thing done in just a few minutes.

Determine what kind of RAM is compatible with your motherboard. Different motherboards support different speeds of RAM. You must use a type that is supported by your motherboard, or you may experience significant performance problems. Check your computer's documentation or look it up online to see what types of RAM are compatible.
  • Consumer desktop RAM comes as DDR (Double Data Rate), DDR2, and DDR3. DDR is extremely uncommon in modern computers; most modern computers use DDR2 or DDR3. You must use the type that your motherboard supports.
  • RAM is measured by two different numbers: the PC/PC2/PC3 number and the MHz speed. The PC number (ex. PC3 10600) refers to the maximum "bandwidth", or maximum amount of data that can be transferred at once (e.g. 10600 = 10.6 GB maximum bandwidth). The clock speed of the RAM, which is a measure of how quickly the RAM can perform functions, is signified by the number after the DDR specification (e.g. DDR3 1333 = 1333 MHz).
2.           Open your computer case. This will allow you to visually inspect your RAM slots and currently installed modules, which can make choosing your new RAM easier.

3.  Determine how many sockets your motherboard has for RAM. The number of available sockets will impact the amount of RAM you can add. If you are trying to upgrade and all of your sockets are filled, you will need to remove some to add new modules.

4. Check your motherboard's documentation to see how much RAM it can support. Beyond the number of physical modules your motherboard can fit, there is typically a limit to the amount of memory your motherboard will support in gigabytes (GB) .
  • Your operating system may also put a limit on how much RAM can be used. If you are using a 32-bit version of Windows, you can only use 4 GB of RAM. A 64-bit operating system has no real practical limit.

  1. 5. Check the specs on your existing RAM. If you're planning on expanding the amount you have installed while keeping your old modules, you'll need to ensure that the speeds match for all of the newly-installed modules.
    • If you're planning on replacing your old RAM, ensure that all of your new RAM has matching specifications, and that they are compatible with your motherboard.
  2. 6
    Purchase RAM in pairs. Most motherboards require that RAM be installed in matching pairs, or the performance will be drastically reduced.
    • For example, if you wanted to install 16 GB, you would need to purchase either four 4 GB modules or two 8 GB modules.
  3. 7
    Ground yourself. Before you start removing old modules and installing new ones, make sure you are properly grounded. This will help prevent damage from electrostatic discharge. You can ground yourself by using an electrostatic wriststrap attached to your case or by touching a metal water tap.
  4. 8
    Remove the existing modules (if necessary). If you're removing the old modules to make room for bigger ones or taking them out to upgrade to a faster speed, you can quickly remove them by releasing the latches on each side of the module. Once the latches are release, the RAM will pop out a little, and you can pull it straight out.
  5. 9
    Remove the new modules from their protective bag. Make sure that you only touch the RAM along the side edges so that you don't get oils on the contacts or circuitry.
  6. 10
    Line up the notch on the new module with the break in the RAM slot. RAM can only be inserted in one direction, so make sure that the slot and module line up.
  7. 11
    Push the module firmly into the slot. Apply even pressure to the module, but do not force it in. The latches on either side will snap into place when it is correctly installed.
  8. 12
    Install the other matching module. Make sure that the matching pair are installed in the correct pair of slots. Most matching pairs of slots are designated by different colors or labeled with printing on the motherboard. Your motherboard's documentation should also have a diagram.
  9. 13
    Finish installing your RAM and then close up your computer. Install the rest of the modules, ensuring that pairs match, and then close your computer's case. Plug your devices and peripherals back in.
  10. 14
    Power on your computer. If your computer boots normally, chances are everything went fine. You can check that your operating system is recognizing your RAM by opening the system properties window:
    • Windows - Press  Win+ Pause
  11. 15
    Troubleshoot your RAM. If your computer doesn't boot after you install your RAM, you encounter errors, or experience any other problems, click here.
  12. 16
    Speed up your computer without installing new RAM. There are a lot of housekeeping tasks you can perform on your computer that can significantly increase performance without spending a dime. Click here for detailed instructions.

Method 2 of 3: Increasing Laptop RAM

  1. 1
    Determine the types of RAM that your laptop supports. Laptops are typically much more restrictive than desktops when it comes to upgrading RAM. There are usually stricter limitations on the amount you can install, and most laptops only have one or two slots for memory. You can usually find the types of memory supported in the documentation or on the manufacturer's support site.
    • Laptops use SODIMM modules, which are smaller than standard desktop memory.
  2. 2
    Power down your laptop and unplug any cables. This includes the power adapter, USB devices, and any other devices.
  3. 3
    Remove the panel that gives you access to the RAM modules. This may be marked by a small image depicting RAM modules, or you may need to refer to your laptop's documentation.
    • Not all laptops allow you to access and upgrade the RAM.
  4. 4
    Remove the original modules. Chances are that with the limited space you'll be replacing your original RAM modules. Release the latch on the side of the socket and the module will pop up at a slight angle. Raise the module to about a 45° angle and the pull it directly out of the socket.
  5. 5
    Remove the new modules from their protective bag. Make sure that you only touch the RAM along the side edges so that you don't get oils on the contacts or circuitry.
  6. 6
    Install your new modules. Line the new module up with the notch in the RAM socket. Press it in firmly and then press the RAM down into the bay so that it is flat. The latch will snap into place.
    • Unlike desktop RAM, most SODIMMs do not need to be installed as matching pairs. They will need to have matching speeds, however.
  7. 7
    Secure the panel and power your laptop on. If your laptop boots normally, chances are everything went fine. You can check that your operating system is recognizing your RAM by opening the system properties window:
    • Windows - Press  Win+ Pause
  8. 8
    Troubleshoot your RAM. If your laptop doesn't boot after you install your RAM, you encounter errors, or experience any other problems, click here.
  9. 9
    Speed up your computer without installing new RAM. There are a lot of housekeeping tasks you can perform on your computer that can significantly increase performance without spending a dime. Click here for detailed instructions.

Method 3 of 3: Troubleshooting New RAM

  1. 1
    Ensure that all of your modules are compatible with your motherboard. If you install RAM that isn't compatible with your motherboard, there's a good chance that it won't boot properly. Try removing modules one by one until you find a setup that allows you to boot.
  2. 2
    Ensure that all of your modules are the same speeds. Mismatched speeds can cause performance problems and even boot issues. Try to make sure that all of your RAM is the same speed.
  3. 3
    Check that your operating system is compatible. If you're trying to install more than 4 GB of RAM on a 32-bit version of Windows, nothing over 4 GB will be recognized or used. In order to use more than 4 GB of RAM, you'll need to upgrade to the 64-bit version of Windows, which requires a 64-bit processor.
  4. 4
    Test your RAM with Memtest. Memtest is a program that runs before Windows boot to test your RAM modules. It can let you know if one of them is malfunctioning.

SEO Meta Tags for Every Post in Blogger

SEO Meta Tags for Every Post in Blogger

SEO Meta Tags are most important and useful for our blog's SEO. Meta tags are added to tell search engines what that page is all about. Most important meta tags are the Title and Description of a page. Only these two tags are included in search engines results with site link obviously. As blogs and sites have more than one pages i.e., a blogger blog normally have following pages. Blog home page ,post pagesstatic pagesLabels and archives.

So we cannot use same meta tags for all our pages. Because every page have different content with unique Title and Description. So it is our duty to add different meta tags that perfectly defines our pages to the Search Engines if we want to rank high in the search results.

If we use same meta tags to all of our blog posts, our blog search engine rankings and traffic will be decreased. But, if we add different unique meta tags to different Blog posts, it will make the search engines to know more about our individual blog posts and make them crawl and index our pages better and it also improves our Search engine rankings for sure :)

Well this is the importance of unique meta tags for unique pages. Now lets learn about adding them in your site.

Add Meta Tags for Every Post in Blogger

There are many ways to do this. I'll write each step but the first one is my favourite and I recommend you to apply this method.

Step 1.  Change your blogger settings

Login to Blogger Dashboard >> Select Blog >> Select Settings tab >> Search Preferences

Now Enable search description to Yes.

Write your blog description in the box, it should be limited to 150 characters. Click on Save Changes Button.

Now whenever you create a new post, there will be option for Search Description on the right side. You can write a brief description of every post you are writing.
(This option will be visible after changing search description setting to “Yes” as described above).

Now we just have to add following code in HTML to add these in our blog.

Go to Blogger Dashboard >> Click Template tab >> Click Edit HTML

Find the following code [Tip: Ctrl+F]
<head>
After/under this line paste the following code.
           <!-- Meta Tags ~  readtricks.blogspot.com  -->
 <b:if cond='data:blog.metaDescription != &quot;&quot;'>
<meta expr:content='data:blog.metaDescription' name='description'/>
</b:if>
 <title><data:blog.pageName/> - <data:blog.pageTitle/></title>
               <!-- /Meta Tags ~   readtricks.blogspot.com  -->
Now Save Template. Your blog posts will now have Title and Description that you wrote while creating your post.

Step 2. Add blogger pages HTML codes

This step is a little tricky. Why? Because you have to add the HTML codes of blogger pages one by one. Just see the code below that can be used to add meta tag for your blog home page URL.

Go to Blogger Dashboard >> Click Template tab >> Click Edit HTML
Find the following code [Tip: Ctrl+F]
<head>
After/under this line paste the following code.
<b:if cond='data:blog.url == data:blog.homepageUrl'>
 <meta content='Your Blog Description' name='description'/>
<title>Your Blog Title</title> </b:if>
Your blog homepage will now have Title and Description that you wrote in this code in place of RED color. Now Save Template.
You can add other page codes as well see full codes here HTML codes for all blogger pages

Step 3. Add meta tags with URLs

You can add meta tags with specific URLs as well. Just write your desires URL and give that URL specific Title and Description.

Go to Blogger Dashboard >> Click Template tab >> Click Edit HTML
Find the following code [Tip: Ctrl+F]
<head>
After/under this line paste the following code.
<b:if cond='data:blog.url == &quot;Write URL of page&quot;'>
 <meta content='Your page Description' name='description'/>
<title>Your page Title</title> </b:if>
Your blog page will now have Title and Description that you wrote in this code in place of RED color. Now Save Template.

Remember some points

1. Apply only one method. Because writing multiple tags will be of no use.
2. Google and all other Search Engine Bots only take those meta tags in their system which come on top the site i.e., if you have multiple title tags then only one title will be taken by bots which in on the most top.
3. You can see your HTML code by pressing [CTRL + U] , just open your blog link and press CTRL + U this will open your blogs page source. and your html site will open.

Need any assistance, don't hesitate to comment down. Have a good day!

Basic SEO practices for newbies

Basic SEO practices for newbies:

The thing to remember is that SEO isn't a magic bullet. It's important, but no one knows the exact algorithms the SEs use, and each one is different so all you can do is optimize the best you can. There happens to be a few things that you should just always do whenever you make a new website. Don't stress over every little thing, just make sure you are doing it, this should just become kind of automatic for you.

Make sure you fill in your meta tags with a good title, description, and the right keywords. I personally don't think the keywords meta-tag is nearly as important as everyone else on here does, but it gives me a way to organize my keywords list for me to reference. When you start having many different websites, it's good to include whatever notes to yourself you can. When you come back to work on an older site you might not remember eveything you were thinking before. The metatags help you remember your site info as much as it helps the SE figure it out. A good rule of thumb is that anything that won't hurt you for SEO and might help, you should use and use correctly. Definately use the title meta-tag, try to include keywords in the title. Definately use the description meta-tag, google will normally use this for the summary it displays in the listing. It isn't used for indexing so write it for humans, this is what gets people to click on your link when they see it in the SERP. Don't use the same metatags for every page on your site. Take the time to make them be specific to each page.

Create good content. Make sure you have some decent content. Content is what the internet was invented for. If you have unique and quality content, then all the seo and backlinking you're doing is just to get the ball rolling. Give them what they want, show them where it is, and they'll start coming. If it's good enough then it'll eventually start building on its own naturally because people like what they found. That's the idea anyway. So whenever possible use the best page design and the best content possible. Avoid duplicate content between different pages on your site, the SE will most likely penalize your site for that.

Remember, your content isn't just something to get google to like your site, it is the whole point of your site. The content and how you structure it is what will make visitors do what you want when they get there. If it's crap they'll just leave, and 99% of them won't leave by clicking on your adsense or affilliate link, they'll just close the window or use the back button. (yes, of course if your doing blackhat stuff you can make the browser go where you want, but that's for a different discussion.)

Include your keywords. Structure your content correctly, make a few title headers in the content that include keywords (use header tags h1, h2, etc.), try to have a keyword density around 2% in your content, and maybe 4% for the whole page including the metatags, alt tags, anchors, etc.

Be sure that your .htaccess is set up correctly. Decide on which way you want your url to be and stick with it. If you decide to use www then always use it like that in your links, don't use both. I usually set up a 301 for all www requests to redirect to non-www urls. If you don't set that up then every single page on your site can appear to google as having at least one duplicate. If that's the only thing wrong on your site it isn't going to kill you, but it's so easy to fix. If you don't know how to set up a redirect in your .htaccess file then just do a search, there are many other threads explaining it. Check google if you can't find it here. Also, .htaccess only apples if your on an Apache server, Windows servers do it a little differently, if that applies to you then just search google to find out how to do it. If your consitent in your linking, then the only time the redirect will come into play is if you get natural backlinks that you have no control over. You should also specify which you prefer, www or not-www in google tools if you use it. (If you don't then you really should, I recommend you set yourself up an account for webmaster tools and analytics.)

Make a robots.txt file and I like to include a favicon because without them the robots will trigger file not found errors on your server. Be sure to configure your robots.txt correctly. Make a custom 404 page. If your site has more than just a couple of pages then also create a sitemap.xml file. It's not a bad idea to just create a sitemap anyway no matter what, it lets you define the structure of your site to the crawlers. Just search google if you don't know how to do any of that, it's very basic and you can find exact instructions within a minute when you do a search.

Other than that there isn't a lot more you can do for on-site SEO. When people ask about SEOthey're always thinking of on-site SEO, but thats the easy and quick part. Just do it and get on with it.

Everything else is off-site SEO and involves building backlinks and promotion.
This is where you need to focus your efforts. This is where the magic bullet is, if there really is one.

Social Bookmarks, Directory Submissions, Profile Links, and Blog Comments are really the easiest place to start getting backlinks. It's not a bad idea to purchase these links from a service. They are easy to make, but to do it right they really need to be posted from many different accounts and ip adresses. A good idea when your starting is to do it yourself a little bit to see how it works, then purchase larger quantities from a service. You want to get a lot of links, but you don't want to over do it. Building to fast can look unnatural, just do some searches and read up on it a little more. How many and how fast is a judgement call you have to make. hold off on more complex linkbuilding until you have a little more experience. Linkwheels and other link structures can be very powerful, but can also hurt your site a lot if not done correctly.

Whenever possible include keyword anchors and title or alt tags on your backlinks. Don't always use the same anchors, vary it up a little, use 3 or 4 different keywords and even do a few with some non keyword anchors. You are trying to look as though a lot of different real people have taken a liking to your site, if it were natural then all links wouldn't be exactly the same, so you want to simulate that same type of randomness. Backlinking strategies are all about simulating the natural events that happen as a site grows in popularity. If you can do it successfully then the SE's will give you good position in the listings, and then hopefully what you are simulating can become reality. The point of all of it is to get traffic.

Change up your anchor text. The idea of backlinking is to simulate that masses of people are becoming interested in your site. It should have some amount of randomness to it in order to look natural. I've seen a few made up stats on what's best, but I think a good rule of thumb is maybe about 45% primary keywords, 35% secondary keywords, and about 15% random unrelated like Click Here, and then about 5% just the url. The exact percentage isn't dramatically important, it just needs to seem like the linking is natural.

Create relevant articles containing your keywords, include backlinks using keyword anchors, and submit to article directories. Article directories are mostly authority sites and your article becomes a relevant backlink to your site. Then create profiles and accounts on blogs, social networking sites, forums etc. Include a link to your website whenever you do that and each one of those become backlinks as well.

Thats the end of it. Well kinda.
Go back and watch your stats to see what keywords are getting the most traffic to your site, analyze the data a little bit and if you need to, remove or add keywords to your content and tags, and adjust the anchors your using in your backlinks.

Continue building links. Remember you're trying to artificially create the appearance to the SE that your site is popular. When that happens naturally, people are always adding new links to your site. Since you are trying to look natural you have to do the same thing. Linkbuilding never stops completely.

OK, there you go. That's that basics of SEO. Everything else is about fine tuning, and has to be looked at for each individual situation.

If you have any more questions, before you start PMing anyone just read through the threads in the White Hat SEO section, and do some searching on google. You can find some really good information from some much smarter people than me.

If there are any SEO gurus that want to expand on this or if you see any errors you think should be discussed, please add your input.

Hope this can help some of you.
